Greek Prison Brawl Leaves Two Inmates Dead

(MENAFN) A violent altercation inside a northern Greek prison claimed the lives of two foreign nationals on Monday, according to local media reports.

The fatal brawl erupted at Nigrita Prison, leaving an Algerian and an Iranian inmate dead, Greek media reported. In the immediate aftermath, authorities moved swiftly to detain 11 inmates in connection with the incident, including the two individuals considered primary suspects in the killings.

Following the deadly confrontation, prison officers conducted a sweep of the facility, recovering a cache of improvised weapons — including makeshift knives and wooden planks — seized during the post-incident raid, media added.

The precise circumstances and trigger behind the violent outbreak remain under investigation, with officials yet to establish a clear motive, the daily noted.
